The need to produce plastic roller shutters from rigid PVC in Greece led civil engineers Pavlos Manakidis and Konstantinos Kokkonis to come together and establish TECHNOPLAST OE in 1964. Until then, timber shading systems were prevalent in Greece. At that time, modern PVC roller shutter systems were mainly imported from Italy.
In 1970, after the company had grown and established itself as a leading Greek producer, it changed its legal status and became a public limited company (SA). At the same time, Pavlos Manakidis founded a second company, and by 1972 TECHNOPLAST AEBE began sourcing exclusively locally manufactured raw materials.
From the very first years, the product range expanded rapidly, with many new cross-sections designed for use in both the primary and secondary stages of construction. Notable examples include wall and ceiling cladding systems (tongue-and-groove), frames, baseboards, and more.
Investing in human capital
At the end of the 1990s, the company changed its ownership structure. Of the founders, only Pavlos Manakidis remained. The company experienced significant growth in the years that followed and expanded beyond the Greek borders.
In 2008, the company created its own exclusive PVC compound production unit in Galarino, Halkidiki. A year later, PVC product recycling began in the same area.
